LED Inventors Win Nobel

Isamu Akasaki, Hiroshi Amano and Shuji Nakamura, the three physicists who developed LED lights, won the Nobel Prize in physics. LED technology, says the Nobel committee, may improve the lives of more than 1.5 billion people globally who lack access to reliable electricity because LEDs can be powered by solar. LEDs may also help radically reduce energy consumption in the developed world.
